I first wrote about Fantastic Cat in August of 2022 after two separate tips in the same day. The first was courtesy of Mr. Simels and his post over at the wonderful Power Pop, and the other, a coincidental text from a friend very soon after, which said:
"They are all singers and songwriters in their own band. Mike Montali is the frontman for Hollis Brown. Don DiLego fronts Beautiful Small Machines and his solo stuff (and was Jesse Malin's bass player for a while) and Anthony D’Amato has several solo records and directed a Jesse Malin video when he was a teenager."
I enjoyed their debut, but I am really digging their new one, "Now That's What I Call Fantastic Cat." This record is pure joy. It's smart. It's fun. It''s full of great songs. And it has what is now unofficially my new theme song, "The Hammer & The Nail."

As I noted a while back on Now Playing 2.0, this is my favorite rock album so far this year. It's a great listen all the way through.

I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to this. One of my favorites of the year for sure!
As good as the record is, they are even better live. One of the best shows I have seen in a very long time.
Getting a 'Sweet Virginia' vibe, and that's a good thing.

Thanks for this. I fully enjoyed it. Right up there with the new Redd Kross for top honors for the year.
Saw these guys CBS Saturday Morning about a year ago and then lost track of them but GOD DAMN IT! is this record great or what?!? Not one bad song on the whole thing! Thanks for the tip, Cool One!!
And my new theme song, as well. PERFECT!
