Rock & Roll Is Alive And It Lives In North Carolina

I've often called NRBQ the greatest live act on Earth. And after 40 years and 50 performances, I stand by that statement. But Southern Culture On The Skids can sure give The Q a run for their money. Whether playing to 10 or 110 people, and I've been part of both, SCOTS play like its their career finale. Last night in a quarter full capacity at the Brooklyn Bowl, might have been one of the best I have ever seen.

They've come a long way from surf punk instrumentals and white trash anthems, and thankfully, stopped throwing fried chicken into the audience. Rick Miller is a guitar hero. Mary Huff is a goddess with a voice from heaven. And Dave Hartman is a human metronome. Together, this band plays music you can dance to and songs you can sing, while never letting you forget, it's okay to have fun.

I know there are some fans out there, but I bet there are more who have heard very little of this band.  Get on it, toot sweet. You need to have a good time, whether you realize it or not.

I only discovered them a few years ago. I can't wait for them to make it up to Albany! They are great.

Saw them May 14 at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn (west of Chicago). Have been a long-time fan and it was the first time seeing them live. Great show and just plain fun. Glad you like them too.

I saw them in May -- they had audience members come up and dance for a couple of songs and they (still?) did throw fried chicken into the crowd. It was a great, great show, though.

These neighbors of mine are a local treasure (as was Dex Romweber). Here's to their being heard by more!

They're always a great show! I've been going to see them for years, and they've always been on. They can play almost anything I'd want to hear, they have a sense of humor, and a fine fashion sense. Unfortunately, I was out of town and missed them Saturday night. Hard to believe it was only ¼ full in Brooklyn.
