Shel Talmy, 1937-2024

If you've been paying attention, you'd know, this man was responsible for a major part of this blog's content.

That's all.

I'm not in a great mood. I don't have the head for a proper tribute. I've sold four records in the past week.
Coincidence? Who knows? But I'm not having it.

Anyway, Shel Fucking Talmy!

Yes, BW owes quite a bit to Mr. Talmy. He had a good run and those first Kinks sides will stand the test of time. But that's just the tip of his iceberg. Such original material that he was involved with. Classic, just like Mr. Talmy. Love his farewell facebook post. RIP.

One of my heroes on a lot of levels.

I've said it before, there was magic when Yanks worked with Brits, e.g., Jimmy Miller with the Stones, Joe Boyd with Nick Drake, etc., Tony Visconti with Bowie & Bolan, Shel with the Kinks.

Sal, I had the pleasure of a friendly phone conversation with Shel back in the 90's and can't remember much of was said (other than I had the receiver in my hand while in my mind I'm screaming, "It's SHEL FUCKING TALMY!!!...).
A true legend in the business with a golden ear and yes, a man who put an American stamp on some great British artists...
