Liar- Sex Pistols
Slow Motion- Ultravox
Lost My Girl- Rick & Sandy
I Give It All 2 U- The New Orleans Bingo! Show
Everlasting Love- David Ruffin
Race- Prince
Bill Bailey Won't You Please Come Home- Preservation Bass
Liar- Sex Pistols
(An obvious choice, maybe, for best punk album of all time. But "Bollocks" rocks, too.)
Slow Motion- Ultravox
(I've gone on about the first three Ultravox albums, especially the debut. But "Systems Of Romance," the third and final album with John Foxx, has become just as important in that trilogy.)
Lost My Girl- Rick & Sandy
(Who are Rick & Sandy? Ya got me. But I love this one-off British single from 1965.)
I Give It All 2 U- The New Orleans Bingo! Show
(One of the greatest live acts I have ever seen in New Orleans. It was performance art, a circus act behind Clint Maedgen's songs. Bingo is done, but Maedgen's since played sax in the Preservation Hall Band. Bingo's records
are solid, but pale in comparison to the live show. Good to hear this
one, though. It's been awhile. This one might surprise you.)
Everlasting Love- David Ruffin
(I've been wanting to write up the Ten Best Non-Compilation Motown Albums for some time. Ruffin's "My Whole World Ended" would make the list.)
Race- Prince
(Revisited Prince's contract breaker "Come" last week. Without the baggage, it ended up being a fun spin. Time heals!)
Bill Bailey Won't You Please Come Home- Preservation Bass
(Really? "Bill Bailey?" Yes, really. The only way to cover this oft covered standard is to make it special. And Preservation Brass does just that. If this doesn't put a smile on your face and some pep in your step, well, you're just being difficult.)

Yeah, I've always thought Bollocks was more of a rock and roll record than punk 'cause of the sound/production. Great, great stuff. There's some Chris Spedding produced demos out there that are a fun listen as well.
Nice mix, especially Bill Bailey, The Bingo Show!, and Rick and Sandy (where do you come up with these obscure songs???).

I recognize "I Give It All 2 U" but it was done by someone else I can't remember. Do you recall who may have covered it?
The David Ruffin simply slays me.
Clint Maedgen wrote it and occasionally he'll release the same songs either with The Bingo Show or solo. I can't imagine it being covered outside of New Orleans, but anything is possible.
I started my Ultravox journey with Systems of Romance. I rank it 2nd with the self-titled at the top and Ha Ha Ha in 3rd. While they became a very different band after John Foxx left, I also enjoy the Midge Ure era.

Bingo Show was such a great live band. Similar to The Meters in that they never really captured that live energy on a studio recording.
I don't always have the inspiration / knowledge / skill / ... still, I'm reminded, any mix is made better with a Prince song!
I would love to see a Ten Best Non-Compilation Motown Albums list!
Always preferred the edge Ultravox! had before they lost the exclamation point, but still liked them afterwards too. And I agree about the David Ruffin track, a big guilty secret enjoyment every time it came on the radio. Great SOTW. Cheers!
