Souvenir From A Dream- Tom Verlaine
(From the proper follow-up to "Marquee Moon.")

Pass The Hatchet- Roger & The Gypsies

(Classic New Orleans Funk. That's Eddie Bo you hear!)

Everything In The World- Squeeze

(Went on a Squeeze mini-binge last week or so, and decided "Some Fantastic Place" is a much better album than people think.)

It's Who You Know- X
(It sure is.)

Don't Ask Me Questions- Graham Parker

(Our friend Bill said this over at "Now Playing"-
"For many years, 'Squeezing Out Sparks' was my favorite Parker album,
but these days the first two albums get a lot more airtime on the old turntable. They're hard to beat."
I don't disagree.)

Ankle Deep- Tom Petty
(Tom Petty plus Jeff Lynne equals three excellent records. This one is from "Highway Companion." I love the wordplay on this track.)

Palmeres- Nara Leao
(From her amazing 1966 release "Nara Pede Passagem," please get lost in this wonderful closer from Nara Leao.)

Not to take away from either album, I've always thought that if the best songs of Adventure and Tom Verlaine S/T were combined, you'd have one hell of a great record.

Some Fantastic Place has always been amongst my fave Squeeze albums.

BTW, Galactic/Irma, K. Boothe, Sarah Q. - it's been a superb week of posts!

Add me to the list of firm believers in the first two Parker records. Cleveland Jeff

Always wanted the Tin Men to cover Pass the Hatchet, and had Alex convinced to record it when Carlo Nuccio pushed the idea, too and would play the drums on it. Then, Carlo got sick and died before they could get to the studio.
Nara Leao needs to better known in the US.

I believe the Graham Parker song has to be Hey Lord Don't Ask Me Questions, great song. I have to say I like all GP's early albums until Up Escalator. Anyway, check out Tav Falco's Panther Burns good cover of Pass the Hatchet Baby on the World we Knew album.

The song is listed as "Don't Ask Me Questions" on the "Howlin Wind" album and "Hey Lord, Don't Ask me Questions" on "The Parkerilla" and subsequent compilations, as well as the single picture sleeve.

Highway Companion is one of my favorite Tom Petty albums. Just saw Glenn Tilbrook alone with his Telecaster is Kent, Ohio just playing random songs he felt like playing. He and Squeeze are so good. Some Fantastic Place is not only a fine album but the song SFP really gets me too. Hope you had a nice weekend.

I'm inclined to say Heat Treatment is my favorite Graham Parker album. I love Howlin' Wind and Squeezing Out Sparks, too. Even Stick to Me has some amazing songs, even if it had to be rush rerecorded because the masters "went missing" (they were probably stolen). I do enjoy some of his 80s and 90s work as well, especially 1991's Struck By Lightning. I first got into Graham after seeing him as part of the Dave Edmunds Rock 'N' Roll Revue in 1990. Featuring Dave, Dion(!!!), Graham, and Kim Wilson (who was better here than any of the times I saw him with The Fabulous Thunderbirds) with a backing band consisting of Steve Cropper, Phil Chen, Terry Williams, Gavin Povey, and the Miami Horns. It was an amazing show and made me into a Graham Parker fan (my brother even more so).

Thanks for this Sal! I love a lot of Graham Parker records ... currently my favorite two are "Struck By Lightning" - which strikes me as the equivalent of Elvis Costello's sidestep for "King Of America" - and the live album with The Figgs that was just reissued on vinyl for record store day, "The Last Rock & Roll Tour."

Like others here, I absolutely loved every GP album until The Up Escalator. Despite what I felt were diminishing returns, continued buying his releases up through Deepcut To Nowhere- exceptions being The Mona Lisa’s Sister and Human Soul which are mid-career gems that renewed my faith. Picked up the RSD live album with The Figgs yesterday - along with Bobby Charles, Thin Lizzy and ‘Ronnie’ Wood. So far, the best thing I bought yesterday is the new Craig Finn album. Recording with Adam Granduciel and War On Drugs has energized him and focused his songwriting. His best solo album yet.

Verlaine, Squeeze, Parker - you're spoiling us. And as for Nara Leao - bacana!
