The following text is from the first "Off The Shelves" post back in 2012.
The mix is called "Off The Shelves" for two reasons.
Back in the
merry ol' days of retail, my personal CD collection became unruly. I
owned everything by everyone because it was easy. Then came the days to
weed it all out. I'd find the discs that offered one or two amazing
tracks, "record" them, and remove the CDs "off the shelves" permanently and back on to the shop's shelves.
The other reason?
I have few memories as great as being a kid
and pulling records "off the shelves," with that imaginary audience
tuning into my own private radio station. That was when I played
nothing but what I loved because I only had what I loved. It was easy. That was
when music sounded best.
Here's a mix of some tunes I pulled "off the shelves." Apologies in advance if some of these tracks have appeared on previous posts and mixes.

I fell in love with “I understand” after it was used in Trees Lounge, one of my favorite movies.
Wow. Don't think I have any of these. Thanks, Sal for letting us explore your shelves.
Sal, not sure if its a coincidence about your S.O.T.D. or if you're just thinking of him , but bad news about Dave Edmunds today- https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/dave-edmunds-cardiac-arrest-brain-damage-b2800272.html
Sad news about Dave Edmunds. He made a string of great records -his first seven records are just about flawless, and he was also a skilled producer. His love of early rock styles was encyclopedic in it's breadth. Everything from rockabilly to Spector's Wall of Sound.
And you can never go wrong with Del Amitri.
thanks for info Dave is one of my all time heroes. rs
Red Foley's 1952 single "Midnight" is the darkest of horses. One of the deepest cuts of proto Rock N Roll I know.
Sal,
The zip isn't working for me. Any trick to it?

VR,
I check before and after I post and I just checked again. All okay on this end. It's usually a browser issue. Try refreshing or using a different browser.
"Trees Lounge" is where I first heard it. It has stayed with me since.
Thanks for the Figures on a Beach callback. I first learned of them from Sire’s Just Say Yes series. I understand that Chris Ewen is with Stephin Merritt’s Future Bible Heroes and The Magnetic Fields, both of which I listen to much more frequently still. Your entire mix is great! Thanks for all you do, sir :)
