These Boots

Back in 2017 an expanded edition of the "Supremes A' Go-Go" was released. Nothing new for the CD world, though I found it wild that the original LP was 12 songs, and the Deluxe Edition had 30 bonus tracks from the sessions.

Berry Gordy was a mad man and often had numerous artists from the Motown roster record the same song, and then he’d pick the best version for release as a single. "A' Go-Go" has The Supremes covering The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers, Martha & The Vandellas and The Temptations, all of which can't hold a candle to the versions we've come to know and love. The ladies also cover the Stones, The McCoys, Tom Jones and the Lee Hazlewood/Nancy Sinatra hit "These Boots Are Made For Walking," which a) I totally forgot about and b) kicks the original's ass.

Great re-release. Boots is good but my fav is This Old Heart of Mine.

Great vocal from Diana. I love the snare drum sound in the instrumental section.

Sorry, those were Nancy's boots. She wore them the best.

Not one of a gazillion cover versions, from Wayne Newton to Megadeth, can touch Nancy's. It's got the sass, the brass and the ass.

Not better by far, but interesting, is the version by the Humans.

I love the Supremes, but had no idea they had covered "Boots." Thanks for posting that! But having said that, I do agree with VR and the anonymous poster that Nancy's version is the definitive one. Maybe '70s disco Diana could have done something interesting with it, that strayed a bit further from the original.
