"Hi everybody. I'm David Jo of the New York Dolls. We're from New York City and we like our Philly soul, Chicago style."
The reunion of The Dolls and Todd Rundgren, "'Cause I Sez So" didn't thrill me when it was first released in 2009. Part of the problem was that the vinyl release was one of the worst sounding pressings I had ever heard. It was a real turn off. But over the years, the record grew on me.
All Music said, "'Cause I Sez So is clearly David Johansen's album, and it's a great showcase for one of the great rock singers of his generation. But is it the New York Dolls? Well, that's what it says on the front cover, and if the sound is different, the "Whatsit to You?" spirit of this set is as keen as ever, and that counts for a lot with these guys."
Rhino's Rocktober vinyl campaign continues this month, and "'Cause I Sez So" just got a repress and it is a vast improvement over that original vinyl release, and listening to it confirmed what I started to believe over the years- this record is a blast.

Funny, I pulled out this album a couple months ago…and it rocked me Big Time!
See above comment! That’s me!
Yeah.
I was lucky enough to see the original New York Dolls in the 70's and I am so glad I did. I also had planned to see the original Iggy & The Stooges but my father pulled the use of the car. Glad he didn't pull that the night of the Dolls. I will always remember how incredible that performance was. It was in the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis.

Boy I loved the 1st Dolls album. But after their second album I didn't listen anymore. Johnny Thunders made such a great racket. So Alone is a classic.
Thanks for the Rundgren link
too young to see them in the 70's but geez the reunion was fun. i saw them every time they played nyc and philly. sylvain, sami, and steve were always very cordial and nice. will pull this out again and listen.

I'm one of those weirdos who thinks the reunion album is their best. "Dance Like a Monkey"? Out of this world. 😎
Great record! That was before the Rundgren reunion. Fantastic album.
I enjoyed later day Dolls. Somehow I ended up at a Motley Crue show and the Dolls were the opening act. They were a blast....the Crue not so much but they obviously were influenced by them
