Songs Of The Week, 2026: 1/3-1/9

If I Knew Then What I Know Now- Charlie Rich
I Believe- Robert Plant
Somebody Saved Me- Pete Townshend
Love Has Found Me- The Galaxies
Let The Music Play- Rick Derringer
Pa' Huele- Eddie Palmieri
There's A Ghost In My House- R. Dean Taylor

A few quick notes:

Charlie Rich is doing James Hunter 50 years before James Hunter on this track.

Rick Derringer is doing Todd Rundgren and Utopia two years before actually making an album with Todd Rundgren and Utopia.

This Eddie Palmieri cut is super groovy, especially his twisted quote of "Mary Had A Little Lamb."

Enjoy it all below.

There's a Ghost in my House is a latter day Motown track sung by a white singer ! For a long time, I only knew the Fall's cover version which is fine too. In his autobiography, Mark E Smith said he got beaten up to the sound of this song while he was a school kid ...

Hey Sal ... It must have been fifteen (?? !!) years ago that you introduced me to that Galaxies' record. It was perfect then and it is perfect now! No idea where the band is at today but you and I are still at it.

Thanks!

Funny you included Somebody Saved Me by Pete Townshend; I think that's his best solo song ... and was just thinking of making a mix for a fellow Who fan and trying to think where to put that song up near the top of the mix.

Derringer's "Let The Music Play" vs "Can't Stop The Music" H&O from War Babies, which of course has a Todd connection

I was familiar with Rich's work only from the 70s, which was slick countrypolitan and not my cuppa. Then, some time in the 90s or 2000s I heard his version of Mohair Sam, and I wondered what I was missing. My Rich collection's grown some since then, but still isn't extensive, so I'm curious to hear this one.

That Plant’s LP is very good stuff. He makes good records indeed and they don’t get the attention they deserve I guess. Except for that Ms. Krauss collaboration.
