BW's Saturday #89

Tom Petty tells a story in a Heartbreakers documentary that gives a glimpse of his analog mindset, the mindset of someone who refuses to settle. Petty was on the bill for The No Nukes Show, and the last three acts were Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, and Bruce Springsteen at the height of his fame. Petty says that Browne came off stage, and told him: “If you go on, and you think they’re booing you, don’t get thrown because they’re really just saying: ‘BRUCE!’” And Petty replied: “What’s the difference?”

Thanks for that chuckle, that’s a good way to start the day

Hahahahaha. Seriously. Screaming you want to see the next guy while someone is performing is so obnoxious. I'm sure Bruce hated it. Only dicks along for the hits would do that.

Good one. Man, I vividly recall watching that show for the 1st time. The talent they garnered for that event was unbelievable.

I was at a Rod Stewart show at MSG in the late 80s. He had just covered "Hungry Heart," and the audience was in total "Bruuuuuuuuuuce!" mode. He threw down the mic and stormed off the stage. IIRC it took about 20 minutes before he returned Evidently, he didn't get the word. .

That's like the famous comment from Neil Diamond to Dylan, as Neil came offstage after his song during "The Last Waltz."

Neil: "Top THAT"!

Bob: "What do I have to do, go on stage and fall asleep?"

All of which may be apochryphal, but makez for a good story.
