Holy Smokes! No wonder he looks the way he does now. Cranked up on pills, he worked that manic for, what, 30 years? And then, once a year would stay up for a couple of days to raise big money for MD. The thing is, in that short segment, he showed the comedian, the mimic, the social satirist, the dancer, and you have to be a pretty good musician to play that badly well. That being said, the French are still 180 degrees out of phase with the rest of us.
Let's hope this song is available for Guitar Hero soon! (Love the band too. The suits, the stand-up drummer and piano player, the sulking guitar player... they've got it all.)

Just FYI, guys, I've lived in France for nearly 30 years and never once have I seen the least trace of the legendary French love for Lewis. I think it's just that, a legend. That said, I'm happy to have found Burning Wood (which I came to via Eric Alterman's blog). Great job.

I think it's interesting that his guitar solos sound exactly like Arto Lindsay.
Obviously, if Lewis had been on the Bowery in the late 70s/early 80s, we really would be agreeing he's a genius at this point.
