UPDATE: Where In The World Is Matt Lauer....and Dave Edmunds?

We haven't heard much from Dave Edmunds lately. I thought I had read something about "health issues" a few years back, but after some Googling, I found nothing. Good news. The always reliable Wikipedia mentions something about retirement.

"Edmunds recorded less frequently after the mid 1980s, living in Wales in semi-retirement, and touring Scandinavia infrequently. However, 2007 marked a return to touring for Edmunds, alongside fellow rock protagonist Joe Brown, on a lengthy jaunt around the UK. He made an appearance on stage alongside Stray Cats, at the Brixton Academy in London, on Wednesday 10 September 2008, playing "The Race Is On" and "Tear It Up" with the band. On New Year's Eve 2008 he appeared on Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny, performing "Girls Talk" and "I Hear You Knocking."

That's more good news. I'd love to hear some new music, though. Maybe a Rockpile reunion? Anybody have Terry Williams number in Swansea? Who could make this happen? Anyone? Anyone?

Here's an Edmunds track I rank with his best. It's from 1990's "Closer To The Flame" which All Music doesn't care for:

"The wait between Riff Raff and its follow-up was a full six years, so it isn't surprising that Closer to the Flame finds Dave Edmunds abandoning the new wave flourishes of his Jeff Lynne productions for a straightforward root rock sensibility. The record still suffers from a stiff production -- the rhythms are extremely mannered, and the sound of the record is slightly sterile -- but Edmunds manages to tear into a handful of driving rockers, including Mickey Jupp's "Don't Talk to Me" and "Stockholm," and his version of Al Anderson's "Never Take the Place of You" is his most affecting performance in years."

I don't disagree completely, but I only say that based on how I remember feeling then. I haven't heard the album in ages. This track, "EVERY TIME I SEE HER," I still play constantly.

EVERY TIME I SEE HER ZIP

UPDATE:

My friend informed me that Edmunds did indeed have heart problems in 2000.

This link mentions it.
