"Reborn To Run" : THE WEEKEND MIX

40 years after her singing debut with her family band The Cowsills, Susan Cowsill continues to make some very fine music. She spent most of the eighties as an in-demand backing vocalist for everyone from Dwight Twilley and Jules Shear to Carlene Carter, and then finally settled in as a full-time member of the Continental Drifters alongside Bangle Vicki Peterson and then husband Peter Holsapple. Cowsill finally released her very first solo album, the critically acclaimed "Just Believe It" in 2005, with a new record on Threadhead Records about to be released.

She has been living in New Orleans since the late nineties, holding a steady gig at the Carrolton Station Bar, performing a series of shows called "Covered In Vinyl," where she and her band, which includes current husband and ex-Drifter Russ Broussard on drums and their talented musician friends take on an entire classic album.

This week's "WEEKEND MIX" features Susan Cowsill, Paul Sanchez, and Paul Cebar taking on The Boss' "Born To Run," recorded during last year's Jazz Fest. There are some bumps along the way, some flubbed lyrics and the occasional sense that the band needed maybe one more rehearsal, but Susan Cowsill's voice remains one of the most soulful in the game, and both Sanchez & Cebar get their Bruce on nicely. These "Covered In Vinyl" shows are a challenge that Cowsill takes head-on, and has a blast in the process.

Wow!
I just listened to the original last night (took the boxed set out of the library). Front to back, driving in New Jersey -- lyrics took a surreal turn. So long ago, it seems. Might have even had the vinyl. Thanks for the tunes!

I love " Burning Wood " & always will but his support & advertisement of " springsteen " is over the top...
Half the country loathes bruce for his politics, seventy - five % loathe him just for his despicable, repetitive, boring music... move on Burning Wood, if you have a need for bruce, have a beer, discard all his material, & listen to Alejandro Escovedo, the Southwestern 2009 version of bruce....& see him at the City Winery next month.....

I think it's 36% that loathe him for his politics and only 41% who think his music is boring & repetitive. Just sayin'...

What is the country's stance on Susan Cowsill, since that is who this post is about?

Meanstreet's math makes sense if you take the two issues seperately...but you never pass up the chance to show a butt shot of you know who, I don't even know this broad, Susan, but doing covers of you know who is boring, meanstreets to pass & will put on Alejandro's " Real Animal " & will see you next month at his concert at the " City Winnery "....

half the country loathes bruce for his politics?? where are you getting your numbers from? and five percent loathe him for his boring music?? what snap poll was this?

last time i checked it was a free country and if you like an artist, you can write about them. it's not advertisement. it's an opinion. we all have them. if you don't like it, move on.

as for miss susan cowsill, she rocks. she's totally awesome. just MY humble opinion.

and i too love BURNING WOOD.
