"THE WEEKEND MIX" RETURNS

THE LAST OF NEW ORLEANS....FOR NOW.

So here is how it went down. I got to my room on 4/21, unpacked and settled in. Found a place for the iPod speakers, plugged them in, and hit shuffle. (Needed a little music as I found a drawer for my socks. Ya know, sock music.) I don't expect you to believe me, but in the words of Jack Paar, "I kid you not." It's as if the ghosts of James Booker, Snooks Eaglin, and Eddie Bo decided to throw a little party on the 4th floor of my villa to welcome me to New Orleans. For 60 plus minutes, my room turned into the Dew Drop Inn. This weekend's mix is exactly what I heard as I peeled the Big Apple off my skin and got fully dressed like a po' boy should be when in New Orleans.

OK...it's true. I did a little editing. But, just a little. "Take It To The Limit" by The Eagles and "A Cowboy's Work Is Never Done" by Sonny & Cher had no business being on my iPod in the first place. I assure you, the rest is exactly what the iPod was spitting out....less some terrible David Crosby outtake from his box set and "A New Carpet" from the "Godfather Two" soundtrack. But aside from that, my beloved iPod was possessed, and treated me to this random mix of sweet soul music, with a dash of rock and roll, as I descended upon the Crescent City. Well these songs and "Absolutely Right" by the Five Man Electrical Band. Got rid of that immediately...and a few others.

Some random thoughts:

This killer Arthur Conley track was produced by Otis Redding, in case you didn't already know.

The Hesitations track was produced by Larry Banks. Read about him HERE.

The Lou Courtney track was given to me by my friend and fellow Cool Jerk, Little Steven Feldman. We all need some Lou Courtney in our lives. Thanks Steven.

James Booker's off the cuff reading of George Harrison's classic to an audience of SIX, is simply mind-blowing.

Great mix , you should be putting compilations together for the major labels instead of the boobs that work there now !
