"Avast! Me Hardies, and Shiver Me Timbers! It's a whole city ripe fer the takin'. The landlubbers will never know what-a-hit-'em!"

Or, another weak analogy, "Isn't this mine played out?"

I'm only surprised that the road kits don't come with used condoms (or replicas of them).

Plunder my wallet is more like it

let's all remember that bonus tracks are generally except for and occasional b-side the tracks that were not good enough to make the record ie: outtakes or demos. yes of historical interest but as usual the stones are able to take it to a new level of greed and lack of respect for their fans but hey the next time they tour you'll be able to shell out 500 bucks just to watch mick flop around to a bunch of oldies. Long live the Stones

just download the shit off a bit torrent site

Soundsource,

3 two volume CDs of Beatles outtakes, each bonus disc (first time around) of Ryko's Elvis Costello's reissues, and many other boxed sets have proven that just because something is left off of an album, doesn't mean it's "not good enough."

It's these particular types of reissues, marketed as "fan packs," that seem to take advantage of the fans.

And don't get me started on your "Mick flop around to the oldies" comment. Yes, the ticket price is ridiculous, but the Stones as recently as 2006, which was when I saw them last, still rock the house. And they are one of the few legendary bands who, a) have many origina members, b) always shake up their set lists, and c) still put out new music that isn't terrible.

I’m sure the Stones are Happy because they think I’ll buy all this stuff to get my Rocks Off. They’ve Plundered My Soul before, I had to do the Casino Boogie and lay my money down on Tumbling Dice to have the bucks to hear them Rip This Joint on their last tour. 200 bucks but it was So Divine! I Let It Loose at the show, doing the Hip Shake with Sweet Virginia, Good Time Woman and a Sweet Black Angel. But my budget is Torn and Frayed because when it comes to Mick I Just Want to See His Face. I need to Stop Breaking Down and Following the River All Down the Line but I can’t help myself. When the Stones Shine A Light I’m Dancing in the Light taking a sip from the Loving Cup. When my funds get low I get the Ventilator Blues so Pass the Wine because I’m Not Signifying I’m gonna quit spending on Stones stuff. With Mick gouging fans like a Turd On The Run maybe I need a Title 5 loan. If this continues I will be the Soul Survivor of the Rolling Stones fan club.

I'm with you, Sal!

Why is it jazz and classical musicians and blues artists are revered for playing long into their career, yet "Rock" artists are just "flopping about"?

Sure, many put it on automatic pilot and coast through a declining career. But this weekend I saw a 76 year old Wayne Shorter, a 67 year old Fred Wesley still vibrant and working hard. Did I say still got it?

And, if any band can mail it in, Kool & The Gang, after 40 years of on the road entertaining around the world, absolutely tear it up.

Experience used to mean something, especially in music. It still does.

Cool School, I can see where your moniker comes from.
That was really good!

Another point Gene is...if the Stones aren't flopping to the oldies for $400, does that mean that the cynics would be happier seeing the Stones play mostly their last 5 records, with a few hits for half the price? That IS what so many bands do these days.

Brian is dead. Wyman is retired. Mick T. has issues. The Stones are the Stones, take'em or leave'em. I'll take'em.

Thanks Gene. I see you are a professional writer so that is quite a compliment.

The music, yes, I want it (in fact I have it). The book might be nice to own. Maybe, just maybe, a T-shirt or a poster.
But replica ticket stubs? Replica backstage passes and badges? Seriously... belt buckles? These boxes seem more like second and third prize in a "Win Stones Tickets and Meet Mick!" sweepstakes.

I guess I don't have the fan club mentality.

The last time I saw the Stones at the Capitol Theater--I think it was in 78--Mick played alot of guitar. I did not think they were as good as the times I had seen them before. I want to know, did any of you like "Jamming with Edward?" I sat down and spoke to Nicky Hoppkin once and he said it was not a good album. Remember, keep on rocking in the free world.

I have a difficult time believing this is not some goof to see how stupidly a Stones fan can/will believe anything. Seems like an old "Saturday Night Live" with Dan Akroyd.

ROTP(lumber)

I can't afford any of this crap, although, the 45's travel box looks intriguing since my 45's are stored in Ziploc bags right now.

I think the Stones still rock and put on a great show. Keith is funny, and still quite "unique" and he even sings well! And Mick--man that boy can dance!

Ken D said...

Hey Christine, why not slap some band logos on those Ziploc bags and sell them as "essential airtight see-thru collector carrying cases"?
