Eden Brent's "Ain't Got No Troubles" - PICK OF THE WEEK

PICK OF THE WEEK!

EDEN BRENT- AIN'T GOT NO TROUBLES

The new release from Mississippi native Eden Brent quite frankly knocked me out. There's nothing wrong with a little boogie woogie now and then, so I threw the CD into the player, expecting a pat little workout of some piano blues. What I heard instead was a gritty and soulful collection of songs that sweats authenticity and begs for repeat visits.

With help from New Orleans' greats George Porter Jr. Jeff Albert and Jon Cleary (on Hammond B-3,) and Colin Linden, who not only plays guitar, but absolutely nails it with his production, Miss Brent's Bessie Smith meets Marcia Ball style of singing and piano-playing perfectly weds the old-timey sound with fresh new arrangements.

I'm loving "Ain't Got No Troubles," which features mostly Eden Brent originals, as well as a few covers, including Delbert McClinton's "Right To Be Wrong," which she hits right out of the ball park.

Listen to "Someone To Love," the opening cut from "Ain't Got No Troubles."
