Where The Hell Is That Girl Called Eddy?

Sometime in 2004, a record came in the mail by A Girl Called Eddy. I don't remember what it was that made me listen. I wasn't a fan of its producer Richard Hawley, and nothing else, not band members or song selection--you know, a cover or two that may pique my curiousity--particularly motivated me. But I listened and it became a bit of a mini-classic for me.

Eddy, born Erin Moran (not that one), along with Hawley and his lush production, delivered an Aimee Mann meets Phil Spector selection of melancholy pop tunes, each made to feel like its own movie, thanks to Moran's emotional vocal performances.

So what happened? I vaguely remember a bit of a buzz at the time and that was that.

This was the first single, "Tears All Over T0wn."

This is the gorgeous album closer, "Golden."

These are two wonderful, non-lp covers, Lennon's "Julia" and Elvis Costello's "Baby Plays Around."

If you're reading Erin, hope all is well. There's a rumor going around that you're working on the follow-up to "A Girl Called Eddy." Come on! We're not getting any younger.

I have read somewhere that she is working on a new album, too.
Yes, I'm a big fan of her.
But, in the mean time, I'm very much content with Rumer.

Mojo mag is treating the Rumer album like the "Revolver" of retro female soul. First listen I thought, "Wow, this is nice." But I'm not getting the 5-star raves at all.

I've been thinking the same thing. When you first turned me on to her I thought she was really special. Phenomenal songs and emotions. I've been waiting for a follow-up ever since. I truly do hope she's working on something. It would be a shame if she was simply 1 and out.
I've heard Julia but not the EC cover. Wonderful and re-inforces my belief in her.

P.S. Glad to have you back. I need my coffee and Burning Wood to start the day.

Thanks cmealha! I would love to hear your take on Rumer. Seems right up your alley.

this has piqued my interest as your musical detective skills are dead on. A girl called eddy was seen in a town called malice wIth a boy named Sue.

Not a fan of Richard Hawley?!!!!
I know all his albums sound just like one another, and all his songs within the albums sound the same, but what a great song!
Gorgeous mood music.

Rumer:
I did a quick listen of the Rumer samples on the iTunes UK site. She's got a very 60's pop voice. I hear so many things - Laura Nyro, Karen Carpenter. Kristina Train, A Girl Called Eddy, Dusty Springfield and to a lesser extent Joni Mitchell and maybe Diana Krall.
Kinda feel like I did upon first hearing A Girl Called Eddy and Kristina Train but not as strong. Will definitely pick it up. I liked what I heard very much although I agree with you that it may not be 5 star. Maybe 4 tops.

By the way, where's the EC cover from? I've listened to it a couple of more times during the days and I absolutely loved it. It eased by ... Eddy jones a bit.

P.S. A.. and Karen just came up with Jackie DeShannon which is spot on.

I'm a huge fan of A Girl Called Eddy and to my great surprise I heard a new Christmas song by her on the radio in London last weekend on Absolute Radio who were doing an alternative/indie Christmas programme. The song was called "The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot" and I've found it on Amazon and iTunes on an album called "A Very Joma Christmas". Its a very sad song but she still sounds amazing. Where is the rock album though?! I miss her!

Erin (Eddy) provided backing vocals on Francis Dunnery's beautiful album 'Man' back in 2003 & that's how I came to seek out her solo work. I love this album & her vocals are a significant factor in 'Man' being Dunnery's finest hour too. While waiting for her new work it's well worth checking out.

I'm a big fan of her album. Bought it at a gig back in 04/05. Saw her twice back then, once as support for Josh Ritter and secondly at a female singer-songwriter showcase, both times she was great and signed my CD. As the years have gone by I've wondered if we'd ever get a follow-up to this classic.....

I'm still hoping after all these years for new music from A Girl Called Eddy. Every once in a while I go looking at her Facebook or googling in hopes of finding a follow up to her now classic debut.

I still have most of her songs , but the two that I were hoping that were going to be on a future EP "Love,Actually" and "Any other way" I found these about five years ago and they are gems ! A girl called eddy is a must in any ones collection.
