It Came From Memphis...Of Course

Spencer Wiggins wasn't quite as popular as James Carr, and he didn't chalk up as many hits, but he certainly had as many killer singles on the Goldwax label. This one, which I can't believe I only stumbled upon this week, is just superb. You will seriously need to wipe the sweat off of your computer when it's over. It's hard to top Aretha, but this comes close.

I'm guess Aretha came first...so he borrowed the arrangement?

Either way, great performance, and I dig the slide guitar on this...wonder who that is.

Damn, that was right ON, man! My oldest son is named Spencer, so I think I have to get me some Spencer Wiggins just because.

When you love Otis Redding and James Carr music, you can feel uneasy when introduced to a name that is supposed to be a peer to these heavyweights. I raised an eyebrow when enrolling in your Spencer Wiggins class . . . I should not have squirmed in my seat. You are right on the mark with this guy. Thanks for bringing this album to my attention.
