Sal,

Thanks for this (and every) week’s Songs of the week.

We’ve noted how the SOTH don’t seem to elicit comments like other posts might. The best I can figure is a post on an artist or trend or memory or … or a mix you post might trigger comment because we recognize (and offer comment) what you have DONE. But these seven songs while not random speak to what you were THINKING that day. I’m not sure how valuable it is for me to comment on the former … certainly hard for me to post on the later. Who knows.

Now, to what I’m thinking …

Independence Day is one of the most important songs in my life and I was taken aback to hear it this week. Like many, I sometimes had a challenging relationship with my father. The day he died I went home and played that song over and over. And every year on the anniversary of his death I do it all over again. I don’t understand the power of music or how it bangs around in corners of the brain untouched in other ways but …

Now almost 30 years later I’m the father of young adults and … I still “don’t know what it always was with us.” Thirty years ago I would have said “They ain’t gonna do to me what I watched them do to you.” Today it is a little more “I guess we were just too much of the same kind.”

Comment or not the Songs of the Week are much appreciated.

Thanks!
