Early, Early...Early Beatles. Like, Stu Sutcliffe Early

Well, this is new to me.

Thanks to Steve Schwartz for the tip and for saying precisely what I would have said.

"The recording quality is poor,  but it sure sounds like them. I've never heard it before, in any case.  In addition, the poster claims that's Stu Sutcliff on bass  (which, if true, would be another first for me, I think).  It could very well be, as it doesn't really sound like Paul's playing IMO."

Sal,

This recording is from April 1960 supposedly at McCartney's house. The players are John, Paul, George and Stu. This song among others are available on several bootlegs highlighting these early years. The one I have is the Purple Chick collection titled Strong Before Our Birth. A lot of the music is instrumental meanderings, but is interesting to "be a fly on the wall" at this embryonic stage.

Definitely not Paul on the bass.
The player plays only one tone per accord, sometimes even a wrong one, and more of half of the song he plays his notes not on the "two", but on the "one", say, against the beat.
Paul wouldn`t have done that from the first time he holds a bass in his hands.
Thanks for sharing !

Definitely not Paul.

Pretty interesting, though.

Definitely them. And you can why Stu didn't want to take up bass in the first place (John talked him into it), and why he was so quick to leave -- his muse pointed to a whole other artistic orbit. Very dim song, but there's something distinctive about the vocal arrangement...you can already hear glimmers of their amazing harmonies in '62, '63 and on.
