Groovin' On A Thursday Afternoon

The first time I heard Led Zeppelin's "We're Gonna Groove" was back in 1982 when Atlantic records released the hodgepodge that was "Coda," a collection of mostly good outtakes assembled after the death of John Bonham. This was a song the band had played live early on, but had dropped from the set before 1971.

If you were a fan of the band, any new music at that point in time was a blessing. And though "Coda" has received mostly unfavorable reviews over the years, I still find most of it a treat, especially the burning version the Ben E. King tune I mentioned above.

It's been 30 years and I only just heard the original version. Hard to believe, but it's true.  I know I made some attempts to find it, but I'm thinking the reason it was so elusive was due to the fact that it is not called "We're Gonna Groove." Remember, the search began long before Google.

Here it is and it is pretty kick-ass itself.

Also just heard Manfred Mann's version, in which the riff that became "Whole Lotta Love" is a bit more obvious.

Add that Small Faces song and what exactly did Page and Plant do to write "Whole Lotta Love" besides cut and paste OP's?

Page never met a rift he couldn't cop and call his own.

As for Ben E. King?

WHAT A VOICE!!!

Very cool Sal. Ben E. King! He is a king! Can we have a Ben E. King day? ;) Never mind, I will have one on my own. You know Ben E. does great covers of "Moonriver" and yes "On the Street Where You Live". Plus there's always his classic, sexy "Supernatural", "I Who Have Nothing" (one of the best performances ever), and all of the other fabulous stuff, most of us know...do I love him? Yep, I do!

@BBJ you are right, but I still love them. My word was "pagery"...btw

Great version by Zep..good closure album all things considered..stop with the "stealing" crap people!...valid yeah...but I'd rather listen to them do the stuff they "stole" than just about anyone else...ps I have a memory of cmealha claiming to have seen the cover and title of Coda in a dream before anyone was privvy to release info at the time...and ya know I bet he did!!
