If Dire Straits were a NYC post-punk band with a late 80's Iggy Pop on vocals they would be The Virgins.
"Strike Gently," The Virgins second release is a few weeks old. I had been loving it until I became totally immersed in all things Bowie and Rundgren. I went back and it still sounds great. I imagine not everyone will be knocked out by Donald Cumming's lead vocal attack, which is not really an attack so much as a feeble swat. But damn, every one of these songs has something that hooked me in.

It reminds me that there was some good music in the '80's.
Pretty good stuff, but doesn't it sound like a direct homage to Dire Straits -- especially the lead vocals?
I'm thinking Edwyn Collins as a direct influence. Thought the first song was pretty good, second, so-so, but will gladly give them a chance.
