I think another reason the mono mixes often sound better is that, at least with the early ones, the stereo mixes were rushed afterthoughts, and all the care was lavished on the mono mixes.
In a world where no new Beatle music has be created since 1970 these little variations bring us great joy. We get to listen to the music with fresh ears all over again.Of course EMI/Capital/Apple gets us to purchase everything all over again. Thanks SalAllan Rosenberg
Then there always the fact that the first U.S lp's had extra reverb added. They sound trashier and more fun than the latest attempt to remaster.I made this remix, exploiting the "Full Dimensional Stereo".http://alanwalkerart.com/audio/revolution_remix.mp3
Trashier, yes. More fun? I don't know. Those 2009 RM are pretty stellar.
Mono for the win!The mono versions of the Beatles albums all sound better than the stereo versions, except for the White Album (the last one to be released in mono).
Agree on the mono preference minus the White Album and Magical Mystery Tour, which makes sense since those were last two Beatles albums to be mixed in Mono. Basically I think it comes down to which mix was given more focus at the time. Its seems to me that the shift in focus must have happened between MMT and Sgt. Pepper; however, then there's the issue of whether the English double EP format of MMT trumped the American LP sound for those songs. We could unravel this ball of yarn all day long...-BlakeS
@BlakeS, great point re: the EPs of MMT. Age and high db's probably render me a questionable judge, but a comparison of the MMT EPs and the US l.p. is a pretty decisive win for the EPs, to my ears. It's especially evident on "Flying," I think, altho there are other tracks where the EPs sound fuller. --JAG
first of all that was great so thank youafter listening to it I think my conclusion is I want both and someone to come to my house while I'm listening and point out all those very cool differences.
Pretty profound differences! Why would you do a speed change in a remix? The harmonica, the handclaps (x2) all essential parts and not background . . .
