Very cool. Gadd has always been cool but I had no idea the Army was ever this hip in the Vietnam era.
I'll follow a great drummer anywhere. Chet Baker was in the Army Band, as were lots of players you've heard of. Probably not a bad place to be for a musician.
In the doc Hendrix, there's a great interview with Jimi's army bandleader. "Somehow by the them the gig rolled around Jimi had always pawned his guitar, and we would have to collect money to get it out."
I used to have a drum kit like that, but was never able to play them quite like that...nice guitar, too.
my favorite drummer. There`s a Buddy Rich Tribute clip featuring Gadd with Dave Weckl and Vinnie Colaiuta. The other two play 1st, all flash and uber technique, then Gadd starts playing this Bo Diddly/Second Line thing, playing with his whole body, as in the clip above. It`s the sound of money.
