Find Of The Week

Found this record and a few other gems for a buck each at last weekend's record show. It was released on the very fine Kent label out of the U.K. in 1984 and more than occasionally, compilations of rare and obscure anything--soul, funk, or in this case, girl groups--can be very hit or miss. But I recognized a few of the names and it was only a buck.

What a gem! You can find it and the full track list HERE and it is the perfect bonus to what is without question, my favorite boxed set of al time---

Here are two tracks from "Where The Girls Are," both of which really knocked me out for various reasons. Just check out what's going on in "Sneaky Sue" by Patty Lace & The Petticoats. I mean, who the hell makes records this good anymore? And this wasn't even a hit. Neither was the track from The Charmettes.

I don't know which I love more, the group names--The Charmettes! The Orlons!--or the song titles: "In His Car," "The Sh-Down-Down Song."

The lyrics of "Sneaky Sue" are pretty great, too: "We don't want you on our side of town/Sneak Sneak..."

Hey wait--is that THE Bernadette Peters?

@Bruce H-

Yes it is THE Bernadette Peters.

And "The Sh-Down Down Song" is another killer. Written by PF Sloan and Steve Barri.

I bought the girl group box set based on something you had previously written about it. I usually regret box set purchases but I have to say you were totally correct. It is a pleasure from start to finish.
