Weekend Mix: Enjoy Yourself

This mix started with a handful of favorite obscurities, spanning genres and decades, but some late comers formed a coalition and an insurgency and things went entirely awry in the best possible way.
I was just about finished when Sal posted about Bowie yesterday.

This made me think of "Enjoy Yourself" by One The Juggler, whose 1984 album "Nearly A Sin" owed a great deal to Hunky Ziggy. It seemed like an anachronism when it came out, but is still a lot of fun. One hook piled onto the next and then it's over, the song became the perfect opener, set the tone and became the title.

It's all about the hooks.
Here is a bunch of guitar based songs full of melodies, hooks, harmony, and hopefully, surprises.

Several bonus tracks worth having without the $40 box of redundancy.

New and old favorites hanging out and having a good time.

Enjoy Yourself

The stuff I know is pretty cool, so I'll be interested to hear the stuff I don't. Recently went on an early John Martyn kick as all I had was his latter-day 80s stuff that has a lot of synthesizer/less acoustic guitar. Puts me in the mind of a portly middle-aged British guy with receding hairline standing by the side of a dirty river in Glasgow on a cloudy day. That sort of synthesizer sound, you know what I mean. It's been a real treat to hear the more folk-leaning early material. British folk has been on my mind a lot lately.

the Liquor Giants' s/t that was on Matador is one of those albums that I buy every copy I run across, knowing someone will like it. "I know I'm wrong" sounds like it belonged on it.

John Martyn's "Solid Air" (1973) is the one with "I'd Rather be The Devil" the epic on it.

A mix well worth exploring, even if I know only a few of the artistes included - Jude the Obscure would be in his element! Good to see Messrs Coyne and Martyn as well as Patto (the man and the band) getting some exposure. Most enjoyable. Many thanks.

Excellent idea, and fantastic to see One the juggler. I saw them a couple of times in London, they didn't disappoint.
Thanks, Chris
