Take It On The Arches, 2016: THE WEEKEND MIX

There are 18 artists on this Weekend Mix. They represent some of my favorite songs of 2016. But of the 18 albums represented, there are only 5 that I truly love and would place on a year-end, "Best Of" list. This is the first time I can recall not having any real passion for a solid Top Ten. Some years, I had no problem coming up with a Top Twenty.

I am still working on it, but until then, take a listen, if you are up for it.

I am amazed how strong Allen Toussaint's version of American Tune is. When I first saw it listed on the CD, I didn't really think another version was necessary. Boy was I wrong. joe

Looking forward to this. I've heard great things about that Thomas Cohen LP, and you wrote lovingly about the Lemon Twigs - I need to get that. Looks like a really nice group of tunes!

Here are the artists that released my favorite music of 2016 (no particular order):
David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Rich Robinson, Michael Kiwanuka, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Drive by Truckers, Jayhawks, The Wonder Stuff, Guy Garvey, Ray LaMontagne, and Deacon Blue.

Also, the Last Bandoleros; real nice guys with a 4 song EP that came out earlier of Tex-Mex rock. Believe they have a full length release coming next year.

Best shows I saw this year: Bruce in Brooklyn (but hated the MSG show in Jan due to obnoxious audience), Stone Roses @ MSG, New Order at Radio City, Neil Young at O2/London, Coldplay at Wembley/London, The Cure at MSG, Ryan Adams at Central Park, Tedeschi Trucks at Beacon, and Govt Mule's NYE show at Beacon

May I suggest Lydia Loveless - 'Real' and Sarah Borges - 'Good & Dirty' as worthy albums from 2016.

Looks really good. Can't wait to dive in. I couldn't make it on 2016 alone either.

Fire up Charles Bradley's latest album. It's wonderful and probably my favorite this year. May he be able to make more.

Ray Wilson's album "Songs For a Friend" was a stand out release for me this year. A touching tribute to a lost friend.

Some nice gems in this lot like Thomas Cohen and really like the Iggy selection. Bowie is a slam dunk and glad to see Lemon Twigs. Did you wind up souring on Field Music?

Cmealha, did not sour on Field Music at all. Only so much room for the mix.
