Brilliant Mistake- Elvis Costello
I had been listening to The Everly Brothers album "In Our Image" and the song "It Only Costs A Dime" came on, which is where Elvis ripped off the intro to "Brilliant Mistake." So...

Blame It On Your Heart- Deborah Allen
The Peter Bogdanovich film "The Thing Called Love" is flawed, but I love it anyway. He was an infrequent customer in my shop and one day I asked him about that movie, specifically why the River Phoenix version of this song did not make the soundtrack. He said, "He was great, wasn't he?" I said, "He sure was." Well, he didn't offer much else, though he implied there were problems and he was trying to put a deluxe edition of the movie together for DVD, with all the music. It never happened. "The Thing Called Love" ran on cable and it reminded me of this song, which is still pretty great by Deborah Allen.

Send Her To Holloway- The Rails
The Rails are coming to NYC. My friend grabbed a ticket for me. I played the album.

Head Above Water- Hall & Oates
I compiled a H&O playlist for Spotify that had no hits. I think this was on the playlist, but it may have been a single and a minor hit. Anyway, no one cares, but it's a great tune anyway.

Master Blaster- Stevie Wonder
One of my very favorite summer songs. Felt like hearing it.

I Didn't Know I Was Saying Goodbye- The John Sally Ride
I have been rehearsing songs with the band for the upcoming recording session of our new record. It's all very exciting, so I gave the first record a spin after not hearing it for some time. Still very proud of this track.

Wrapped In Grey-XTC
Current mood.

I admit I am a terrible snob. And I'm really snobby about music snobs. A quick litmus test is Hall and Oates. If people turn up their noses at the mention of Daryl and John then ... F*ck em!

Another nice set Sal.

Thanks!

Never realized that the start of "Brilliant Mistake" was a cop. Great info. That's why we keep coming back.

P.S. ... and "It Only Costs a Dime" is a great song.

Thanks for zipping up the SOTW for us. The Declan MacManus song is always a treat and the Hall & Oates is one I've unaccountably overlooked. And your band's track is a bit of alright too. Cheers!

Have you changed your opinion on the new Rails album yet?

@hpunch

I like it more than I did, but it doesn't hold a candle to "Fair Warning," which I think might end up being in my top 10 of the last 20 years.

I need to hear that H&O song - thanks for this!
