Bad Kitty Music #5: Rush
RUSH- 2112 (1976)
When I was about 13 years old, I first heard this record. Everything is terrible when one is 13 years old, and the dystopian worldview that permeated this album sounded a hell of a lot like my bus ride to middle school. I loved the record, immediately and forever. If pressed, I can probably still play all seven (sorry, VII) sections of the title cut on guitar, and would gleefully squawk the falsetto of Geddy Lee’s vocals. But for safety and insurance purposes, that is no longer a good idea. If you are sick and tired of getting hassled by the man, and/or are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore, you need this LP in your life.

2112 arrived in my life my senior year in high school which, as it turned out, was a pretty good year. The initial impact that it had on my musical sensibilities was and is still unrivaled by any other album.
Randy
these thursday reviews are gold.
WE ARE THE PRIESTS!
OF THE TEMPLES!
OF SYRINX!
What a great album from my past that I never play any more... I should give that a spin again sometime. Rush is a band -- like YES and King Crimson to some extent -- that I couldn't get enough of back in the day, but as I got older I moved on for some reason...
Pre 19th St days, we'd light up a few, head off to Milk Farm for munchies, then hang in my basement all night listening to this and Fly By Night. Could not get enough of them back in the day. Oh, the conspiracies we hatched up those nights. I'll have to tell you about the big one, one of these days.
I'm right on the bus with Mr G on this one. Being a sci-fi nerd back then (and still now) probably made the whole concept thingy even more satisfying & enjoyable. Plus side 2 kicks off with "A Passage to Bangkok" which never fails to make my day. Cheers!
Rush is a band I respect, but know little of their music beyond Tom Sawyer.
Hey BBJ,
For me...give this a spin
