You Can't Change Change...Or Can You?

Earlier this year, the site that hosts all of the music and zip files of Burning Wood changed hands. With that change came a change in policies and cost. One of the new policies was to report me for a violation of abuse, stating that I was "storing" music for my own personal use, a violation, and that I was taking up precious space that others had the right to use. I tried to explain my way out of it, claiming all files had active links to posts on the blog and that the links only became deactivated when the host changed servers and left me no choice. It didn't fly and I was forced to delete all files from 2008-2019.

This means, every post from 2008-2018 that had a link, is now not only dead, but gone.

So there's that.

I've gotten three emails in the last three days, reminding me that my renewal is coming up and that I need a vaild credit card on file. I've yet to update because I just don't want to shell out the money. After all this time, the new changes have soured the whole thing. I realize you can't avoid change, but I can change, too.

So there's this.

Come October 9th, I believe, though I might be off a day or three, all links will be dead...and gone. If there's anything you want, start grabbing it now. Going forward, I will try to find a comparable place to upload and share with minimal discomfort. Many use Zippyshare, but that proves to be problematic time and again, which is why I have always chosen to pay for my service, allowing you to download without the fear of popups, ads, or worse. WeTransfer seems to be an excellent place, but links have a time limit.

I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Anyway, that's all I got for today.

And this...

come for the writing, the links are extra. have you checked out the Hal Willner - Marc Bolan set yet?

I listened to about 8 tracks off the Willner/Bolan. I was surprised by how awful the Joan Jett was. Talk about phoning it in. So far I dig Peaches and amazed that I don't hate the Rundgren.

Sorry that your labor of love has a pain in the ass component. Hope you get it figured out without too much aggravation.

The new Bruce song and video made my heart happy today. A glimmer of light in an otherwise shitshow of a year. Can't wait for the album.

Awwwww man. I reckon I am one of your most long-time readers and writers - in fact, I just checked, and the oldest Burning Wood mix I have in iTunes is from a decade ago TO THE DAY (well, September 1, 2010). As I hope you can tell, I've truly enjoyed your blog since then.

And so, although I personally have had the pleasure of reading almost all the posts over the last decade, and indeed downloaded almost every mix you posted, it sucks to have that pulled out from under you. And I wish others who visit here could benefit from those older posts.

That said, I like the way you are looking at it. All one can do is go on. I've had to have that philosophy in 2020, as I've been out of a job for 6 months now - longest time not working nor in school for exactly 40 years. Criminy.

Whatever forum or method or server you use going forward, we'll all look forward to it. And if you need contributions to make it happen, let us know. I personally have had no income for 6 months as I said, but I'd chip in anyway, dammit! I personally love FileFactory - easily the least glitchy file server method I've found.

As for the new Bruce - yeah, that was a ray of light today. Love it.

New Springsteen = good news. I'm ahead of my friend the huge Bruce fan on this one. Not such good news though about having to delete all your old files, all that time and effort. Crikey, what a pain in the arse! Anyhow, I'm sure you'll sort out a new server and even lurkers like me will be happy to contribute. Often accused of having deep pockets and short arms I may be, but this blog is worth parting with a groat or three. Cheers!

That sucks, thanks for the heads up. Will you be able to post a non-active link that we can copy & paste into a browser?

@M_Sharp.

No. The files/mixes are gone...well all but 2019 and 2020, and maybe some of 2018.

By 10/9, nothing will saved. Going forward? TBD.

Sal, I second Anon about coming here for the writing and sarcastic wit. Any links are just gravy on the mashed potatoes.

Thanks for all you do.

Hey Sal, For some reason - and I'm guessing it's related to this change - I can't seem to download today's V playlist. Do I need to have some additional fileshare software now? Thanks. And thanks for all the tunes.

Matty,
There was an issue this morning---my fault--- that has been corrected. I just checked it on my end, and all seems to be okay. Please try again.

I've heard some good things about Mega / Mediafire...I'm not a blogger because of the trouble of it. I'd like to take a stab at it, but I have enough crap to deal with in my life...
as for the new Springsteen, I'm always happy to see some new stuff from him and the band [save for the Seeger stuff]...the backstory is extraordinary...is there any other artist who would dare go into the studio and toss out an record that sounds worthy in five days?...the single sounds like it's an outtake from the "Darkness" era...only made with modern equipment...
