Wow -- sad!

He has that great line on the first cut of the second album ...

“Hi, I’m Terry and I’m going to enjoy myself first.”

Much Too Young.... :(

So sad. As a young man with an awakening musical appetite, The Specials was one of the first "my" bands. Bands that none of my contemporaries really knew about, so I felt a particular ownership of them. Their appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1980 was crazy.

I followed Terry (and Neville and Lynval) to Fun Boy Three. Their Waiting album really connected with me, and I played it constantly. Then, new singles from the Colourfield, culminating in their first album that, again, I wore out. All the b-sides and import singles were enough to fill another album.

I've continued to play these songs and albums in all the ensuing years, and still hold them up in the 2020s.

Gone way too young at 63.

Oh damn. has just started to relisten to his solo work after hearing his version of "Sense". Terrific and influential songwriter. RIP.

Only four comments? Wow. From 1979 onwards Terry Hall has put out some great material not only with The Specials but with subsequent bands and solo. Last seen in Berlin - see my Instagram Post - a few years ago with Lynval Golding and company and also the lovely Safiyah Khan. The Specials last album Encore is a gem with no filler. 63? Shit; younger than me.
