For The Record(s)...

Last weekend, I was in the middle of negotiating a deal to purchase approximately 800 records. I knew the guy and he was someone I trusted, so I didn't need to see everything. I was told, "It's right in your wheelhouse." We agreed on a price and his van pulled up a few days later, with twice the amount of records. I spent 8 hours a day for the next six days sorting, pricing and playing what is about 1500 new acquisitions. I love my job when I have work.

I want to thank BBJ for manning the fort. I hope you've enjoyed his vinyl posts as much as I have because there are more to come.

I have had more sales this past week than I have had in the last month. It seems vinyl buyers would rather spend $50 on six records with a few imperfections, than $30 on one audiophile record in pristine shape, at least that is what this last week has shown me.

These boxes are filled with everything from rock classics to 60's and 70's one hit wonders. Most of the records themselves are in fine condition, with superficial scuffs, or a bit of dust. The covers have some seam splits, or DJ markings, some have generic inner sleeves instead of the original printed lyric inners.  But in general, the majority so far have been very solid. I have been pricing everything, as I always do, to be the cheapest available copy. So, if you have some gaps in your collection, I think you should keep an eye on my Discogs listings for the next week. Get in on the fun.

Thanks again, BBJ! You are a blog saver.

If I am particularly moved by something, I will get it posted. But in the meantime, back to the vinyl mines.

Glad to hear you are having a good time with the new haul.

Hadn't ever listened to Fischer-Z, but So Long is a fine tune with a great bassline. Steve Earle's cover of Breed is also a winner.

FWIW, and even though I haven't purchased much music lately, I agree with your assessment that people would 'rather spend $50 on six records with a few imperfections, than $30 on one audiophile record in pristine shape'. At least that's me right now. I went to a record show in our area over the weekend and was not impressed by, say, a pristine copy of Synchronicity for $35. I did pick up Glen Campbell Ghost Duets and Difford/Tilbrook for a combined total of $24.

Good luck with your new haul, I look forward to seeing what you put up on Discogs.

I've admittedly never done it, but selling records sure has to be a lot of fucking work.

It only feels like work when records don't sell.
