Quick Takes

The new Chuck Berry is pretty damn great.

The new Paul Weller is pretty damn awful.

The title of the new Cait Brennan, "Third," represents the amount of songs I can tolerate.

I love the new Roger Waters record. Pink Floyd haters, don't bother.

The new Dan Auerbach, like the new Paul Weller, is pretty damn awful.

Having never been a fan of Robyn Hitchcock, I'm surprised by how much I love the new one.

The Ray Davies is wonderful.

The Todd Rundgren record is still on heavy rotation and I am still digging it.

Please check out Human Radio's new record, "Samsara." I am loving it. Here's a track to get you started.

The new Little Steven is fantastic, long overdue.
The new Heather Lynne Horton is haunting & beautiful.
The most recent Preservation Hall Jazz Band album is joyous.
The new Jason Isbell song, "Hope the High Road" is spot on.

And I am looking forward to seeing/hearing the Mavis Staples tribute concert. Hope it is as good as I remember it being.

I'm also continuing to enjoy White Knight, and the Van Duren CDs.

I'll second Troy's one-liner on Little Steven.

Listening to For Certain Because, a reissue of the Hollies' Stop! Stop! Stop! LP. I bought this album when it came out, and I could still listen to it everyday. The reissue contains mono and stereo versions of the album.

Looking forward to listening to Adios by Glen Campbell tomorrow.

My comments on some of your stuff you reviewed:

New Paul Weller -- nothing special, but not terrible.

New Robyn Hitchcock -- best thing since Ole' Tarantula (which is a very high mark). Brendan Benson was spot-on as producer.

Ray Davies -- I didn't care for.

Todd Rundgren -- hit and miss. The overly political song didn't enthuse or bother me politically, but Juliana Hatfield does it better on "Pussycat".

I will check out the Roger Waters. Pink Floyd left my radar after "The Final Cut" and I've never bothered with any member solo albums.

Shame about the Cait Brennan -- I was looking forward to it.

The Glen Campbell will probably just depress me. I'm not sure I can handle it -- especially if it's any good.

Got around to the new Roger Waters. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. His voice is still pretty solid.
