The Climber- Neil Finn
I have been a champion of all things Neil Finn since the first time I heard the brilliant pop hit "I Got You" by Split Enz. His new single with his son Liam left me cold and this track from his second solo album "One Nil" sounds like pop candy by comparison.

Sweet Emotion- Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon
I love covers and this one popped up recently.

April Fools- Rufus Wainwright
I know Rufus isn't for everyone, but I am a huge fan. His debut killed me. The follow-up, "Poses," not so much at the time. And then "Want One" and "Want Two" both killed me again. I decided to listen to "Poses" for the first time in ages. It is damn good. Not sure why it didn't stick then. I was so thrilled, I listened to the debut, too, and that's where this pop gem can be found.

River Is Waiting- Irma Thomas & Henry Butler
We lost Henry this week, and so I listened to a bunch of Butler, including this duet with Miss Irma Thomas.

Intimate Secretary- The Raconteurs
My friend posted a pic of herself on Instagram, sorting her records. The Raconteurs was in the photo. Of course, I had to hear it.

Sheraton Gibson- Pete Townshend
I listen to The Who or something Who-related every week. This week it was Pete's solo record, "Who Came First." This track is a fave.

Goodnight Irene- Bryan Ferry
If you told me Bryan Ferry was covering "Goodnight Irene," I would go out of my way to not hear it, and I am a huge fan of Bryan Ferry. But, this version, found on his excellent "Frantic" LP, really works...for me.

(Apologies to those who save the SOTW mixes. I may have messed up the dates and tagging last week.)

"I listen to The Who or something Who-related every week." I need rules like that in my life!

My daughter Grace and I had a long talk this week about Jack White; she would be pleased to see The Raconteurs in the mix.

Thanks Sal.

Stay cool.

I think Frantic is one of Ferry's best records, and the cover of Goodnight Irene is a standout. My favorite is the song he cowrote with Eno that ends the disk, I Thought.

Thanks Sal!

I was saddened to hear of Henry Butler's passing. What a talent. What a pair of hands.
Thanks for putting in Pete Townshend's Sheraton Gibson into my music life this week; love and dig that song.
Always surprises and smiles every week. Rave on Sal, rave on!

This looks great... I've never heard you mention Rufus before, but I love his stuff too. Especially those first two LP's, I've worn them out. Unfortunately, I fell off the bus after "Out Of The Game," not as interested lately.

Many thanks. Some good stuff in that zip bag, not least from the elder statesmen Ferry and Townshend. Cheers!

Saw Irma Thomas in Houston on Juneteenth. She's still got it. Half of the concert was her taking requests from the crowd. on ones that the band didn't know, she sang them a cappella.
