Deep Cut Six Pack Volume Two: XTC

The debate continues almost 20 years after the last XTC record--were they a better band before "Skylarking" or after? I don't care. I love it all, though I will say, my Top 5 are the band's last 5.

Here is a six pack featuring some of my favorite deeper cuts. No other purpose here other than some good music to share. And because Andy's guitar solo in "Church Of Women" is one of the most beautiful sounds ever created.

TRACKLIST

Let's Make A Den
Toys
Merely A Man
I Can't Own Her
Wrapped In Grey

Agreed on all counts. What a delicious bunch of songs. They jest get better with age.

Even though I have all six songs, I am only familiar with the last three, so thank you, the first three deserve more of my attention...as does so much of the XTC catalogue.

As much as I love the Friday mixes you and BBJ do, I find myself enjoying your Deep Cut Six Pack series even more. Less is more, y'know?

Randy

P.S. In your 'Now Playing' list is Todd R. in Tokyo - where did that come from? Google search comes up zero.

Is "Let's Make a Den" a different version than what's on A Coat of Many Cupboards? Sounds different

cmealha,
It’s one of the many bonus tracks on the deluxe DVD of Skylarking.

Randy,
The Todd is a Japanese boot. I can zip it up for you if you want. Leave your email in a comment. I won’t publish

What a maroon I am. I had all the bonus tracks except "Let's Make a Den" probably thinking it was a dupe somehow. Thanks for the heads up.

So cool! Now, how did you get an MP3 of the bonus track off the DVD of Skylarking? I'd buy the thing, but I never play music from a DVD, I assumed that was only for watching/video.

Hi Sal,

first off I love the blog. We seem to have very similar taste in great music.
I saw your offer to Randy for a copy of the Todd show. Like him, I've been Googling for it without success. Any chance you could send me a copy as well?
My wife and I saw the show in Amsterdam. I paid a bit extra for the meet and greet for my wife so she got to meet the great man while I stood outside for 45 minutes in the most torrential rain, hail and thunder I've ever seen. He was everything she could have hoped for;). We managed to get great seats on the first floor right opposite the stage. An unforgettable night.
At least we provided some amusement for the taxi driver taking us to Schipohl. He asked what we'd been doing in Amsterdam. When we told him he said "But that's a night club" (I should say we're both well into our 60s). Then he burst out laughing so much I thought he was going to crash the taxi.
We've been long-time fans, having seen him first in 1975 and many times since.
If you wouldn't mind sending me a copy of the show, my email is philm8002@gmail.com.

cheers and keep up the good work. BTW, XTC were better after Skylarking. Nonesuch is vastly underrated.
Phil

Howdy, I would like to know if you still have a copy of the Todd show. I would love a copy (if possible).

Thanks,
