Zerox- Adam & The Ants
Most of America got their first taste of Adam Ant with "Ant Music." But the debut prior, "Dirk Wears White Sox" had been written almost four years earlier, and not released in the U.S. until three years after "Kings Of The Wild Frontier." And there endeth the lesson. I like the debut alot and "Zerox" is a fave from it.

36 Inches High- Jim Ford
Many many years went by before I found out that "36 Inches High" off Nick Lowe's "Pure Pop For Now People" was not a Lowe original, but a song by Jim Ford, an artist both Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello cite as a great influence. Ford's output is small but terrific. Here is his version and I highly recommend his "Harlan County" record.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn- The Beastie Boys
Oddly enough, I woke up singing this one. NO. SLEEP. TILL BROOKLYN!!

Gypsy- Black Sabbath
Speaking of Brooklyn, a bunch of us, and I'm guessing many Sabbath fans all over, used to refer to "Technical Ecstasy" as "TECH EC," as in "Put on TECH EC." "Isn't TECH EC great?' "I love TECH EC." Ah, brooklyn. Anyway, I love "TECH EC" and this song from "TECH EC!".

He Was Really Sayin' Somethin'- The Velvelettes
"Sha wadda wadda."

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do- Alton & Hortense Ellis
One of the all time great rock steady singles.

Thank You- The Remains
Possibly more famous for opening for The Beatles on their final tour in 1966 than their killer debut, The Remains had plenty more than that one "nugget" "Don't Look Back" on that album. "Thank You" is another.

I love the sheer variety of your SOTW selections, Sal, and the Velvelettes and Alton & Hortense Ellis really made my morning(s).

As someone who loves to pore over charts and lists of other fans' favourite tracks, I look forward to checking out what you've been listening to on "Now Playing" every single day.

Nice mix Sal -- Thanks!

I know what you mean about the Jim Ford. It is always interesting to see who what artists listen to / cover / respect. If it's good enough for Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello ... :-)

The best SOTW zip since last week's (again)! And you mean you didn't get to enjoy Adam & the Ants until after us? Thank goodness for small mercies! Great stuff. Cheers!

OK, I don't know how I never knew 36 Inches High was a cover. The things we learn.

And now I've been listening to Jim Ford all afternoon, so thank you for that.
