As relieved as I am that the right vedict was reached, its a sad state of affairs when the country was on a knife's edge over something that was caught on video and unquestionably depicted a murder.

I live in a majority-Black city in the South (70% Black, me and others comprising the rest), our sons go to a school that's almost all-Black, same with our Boy Scout troop and with much of our life. (My sister in law is Black and is the mayor of my city - first Black and first woman mayor in a highly Black city; now why did it take this long, I wonder?)
So I've had the opportunity to understand a little better (without ever fully understanding) what those with darker skin go through in America. It's time for change.
And separate from that - also time for police reform. Keep the good aspects of policing that work and celebrate the good cops, but increase training to help prevent problems, and accountability (laws and firings) when things go wrong.

Glad for the verdict, going on the evidence of my own eyes. Democrat leaders demanding the 'right' verdict whilst the jury was out considering was not a good look, however. What price justice with a lynch mob waiting outside? If that is considered a "vile" opinion, we really are through the looking glass.

The verdict was a good start. Chauvin's accomplices go on trial in August. Hope they see a similar consequence. And for the racist scum out there, if you don't like the direction we seem to be moving towards in this country, there's one place you should move to that's all white, all the time. You'd love it. It's called Antarctica.

Maybe the most encouraging thing to come out of this—besides the final verdict—was the testimony of other police. I doubt there will be any meaningful change in policing until this insidious "blue wall of silence" code is overcome. Good cops need to be able to step up and tear down that wall. I mean, would a fireman tolerate an arsonist on his crew? Why does law enforcement not only tolerate but protect it's outlaws?

Yes, Black Lives Matter. Today we saw accountability. But justice is still a long ways away. 400 years can't be erased in a day.
