Bitter Honey- The Holy Mackerel
The Holy Mackerel featured songwriting legend Paul Williams and his brother Mentor, the latter famously writing the massive hit "Drift Away." Their one album is a psych pop gem, occasionally derailing itself with silliness, but mostly full of wonderful Nilsson-esque tracks like this one.
Leave Me Alone- New Order
I have never been a New Order fan, but I do love a handful of songs. This is one of them
Please Don't Bury Me- John Prine
"But please don't bury me
Down in that cold, cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Down in that cold, cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my feet to the footloose
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye"
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye"
(What John said.)

Proggy and pretty. Or is it pretty proggy? A beauty, either way.

Double Yellow Line- The Music Machine
This one popped up on the iPod on Wednesday and I didn't recall ever hearing it prior. I dig it.

I Go Astray- Jason Falkner
Still smarting over Jason Falkner's "Author Unknown" losing out to Killswitch Engage. (Is that who beat him out? Does anyone know what I am talking about?) This is a perfect song and a great way to close things out. Someone get this album out on vinyl!

Re: Jason Falkner
Yes, unfortunately, I know what you're talking about.
'cuse me, I'm going shopping!
Randy
Thanks - another great mix.
And yes - I don't know what those ROG readers are doing.
Thanks for the best SOTW zip since, er, last week. Rather nice to see UK in the mix as I feel they're often overlooked & underrated in the great prog scheme of things. And aren't John Prine's words brilliant? Think I'll nick 'em for my interment. Cheers!
