An Aptly Named Release From Mike Viola

I took Mike Viola's "Electro De Perfecto" out for a ride yesterday. I don't play this album as much as "Lurch," but after yesterday's spin, I might mini-binge on it for the next few days. I can never explain why a record hits one day and not another. But yesterday, Side One of "Electro De Perfecto" hit me as perfect, with this track above leading the way. There's nothing wrong with Side Two, mind you. But it's hard to top the pop perfection of "Get You Back" and "Soundtrack Of My Summer." I've liked "Electro De Perfecto" since its release in 2011, but I absolutely love it now in 2022.

Mike has been making some of the best pop records since he started with the Candy Butchers. He is one of the most underrated songwriters of this century. These two cuts are a prime example of what he's been doing for over 20 years. An unbelievable talent. I'm happy for the fact that Mandy Moore is helping him pay the rent but he deserves so much more acclaim..

I couldn't agree more with what cmealha wrote. The consistency of his catalogue is just outstanding. If Viola fans haven't heard it, I very highly recommend 'Just Before Dark', a quiet, live acoustic show that is brilliant.

"We Will Never Be This Young Again" from Mike on his 2020 release Godmuffin was probably my most played song last year. It was not about the pandemic per se but it sure fit my soundtrack for the year. On the downside almost every song clocked in over 4 minutes which for me is too long in general for pop songs. Ordinary Girl was great also. I am anxious to hear Electro ... and like the fact it clocks in around 32 min.

Are you familiar with the companion album, Acousto De Perfecto?
