Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart- The Supremes
There Goes The Neighborhood- Sheryl Crow
Don't You Know- NRBQ
Until You Came Into My Life- Ann Peebles
Heavenly Baby- Allen & Allen
To Say I Love You- Ralfi Pagan
You Fool No One- Deep Purple
Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart- The Supremes
The genius record-making of Hitsville USA will never not floor me.
There Goes The Neighborhood- Sheryl Crow
I watched the "Sheryl" documentary on Showtime last week. I was reminded of a few things, including how much I loved her first four records, how talented she is, how quickly people can turn on an artist. This one was always a favorite. I am pretty sure Sheryl is on bass.
Don't You Know- NRBQ
If this doesn't put a smile on your face and some pep in your step, try a new breakfast cereal.
Until You Came Into My Life- Ann Peebles
The same Mojo article that put me on a mini Al Green binge, put me on a mini Ann Peebles binge. This one is a beauty.
Heavenly Baby- Allen & Allen
For years I thought Allen & Allen was just Allen Toussaint in one of his many guises. But the other "Allen" is actually Allen Orange. This goes back, and it is not to be confused with "Beverly Baby" which is the same exact song by the Allens.
To Say I Love You- Ralfi Pagan
I have only recently discovered Ralfi Pagan after that wonderful Fania boxed set was released. Craft Recordings just release his second LP, "With Love" and it has been in regular rotation over here. It's an exciting mix of classic Latin salsa and boogaloo and trippy and sexy Latin soul. Highly recommended. Plus, the new LP reissue is a crisp Kevin Gray cut, for you vinyl fiends.
You Fool No One- Deep Purple
One of my favorite DP songs. This baby cooks!

That's why Burning Wood enriches my musical life!
Thanks Sal
I always like it when you "recover" (for me, not for the legions who already were hip to it) a band from the 70s like Deep Purple (or Queen, or Thin Lizzy, or Kiss, or Humble Pie, or so many others you've included in SOTW) that I'd never really known ,but appreciate more now because of you curating a cool tune like this that I'd have been unlikely to hear otherwise.
Thank you!
Meant to say - of course I "knew of" those bands, and have liked some of their songs. What I mean is, I hadn't appreciated them much because I'd never gone beyond the hits. Sneaking in their non-hits like this, one at a time, helps.
Not from my choice of incarnation of Deep Purple but doesn't hurt to be reminded of a pretty fine number nonetheless. Plus I'm up for Crow and Peebles tracks any time of day. Thanks for the zippy thing. Cheers!
Never heard of Ralfi Pagan but I'll be listening. Great tune.
