"Did you ever get the feeling that the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes?"

- George Gobel

I'll spare you the miserable details of my week. Going over each awful detail wouldn't be good for anyone, and relatively speaking, I am fine. But I will say this to the Universe and the handful of truly shitty people who live in it : Please stop f**king with me! Thank you and have a pleasant day.

Trick Bag- Earl King
Believe it or not, I first heard this song by Robert Palmer years before I knew anything about Earl King. Palmer does a fine and funky job of it, but nothing beats Mr. King's original.

That's All I Got- Steve Earle & The Dukes
I was ready to not care about Steve's new tribute to Jerry Jeff Walker. But as it turns out, it is damn good. Still, I maintain, "The Low Highway" is Earle's masterpiece and so I ran with a track from that.

Go Your Way- Robert Plant/Alison Krauss
There is a fine live capture of Plant & Krauss from Forest Hills Stadium floating around the internet, and boy am I sorry I missed that show. They and the band, which features J.D. McPherson on guitar, sounded great! This is a fave among many faves from "Raise The Roof."

Tender Is The Night- Bryan Ferry
Sitting deep down on Side Two of "Olympia" is this beautifully haunting Bryan Ferry/Dave Stewart co-write.

Two Different Roads- Michael Nesmith
A reissue of "And The Hits Just Keep On Coming" was released last week. This is my favorite from that lovely record.

Time Song- The Kinks
This brilliant Ray Davies track only recently saw the light of the day. It is currently one of my favorite Kinks songs.

Flyin' High (In The Friendly Sky)- The Dirty Dozen Brass Band

Neal,
It's on the big Village Green boxed set.

Nice mix there George Gobel!

I recently went through a similar riff on Steve Earle. Low Highway is great. Guitar Town exploded on the scene. And Train a Comin' and I Feel Alright celebrate "redemption."

A talented guy!

The rest of the mix rocks too.

Thanks Sal

Looks like a great SOTW. I'm bummed that I won't get to see Robert Plant's show in Atlanta this week - I have another obligation. He is on the very short list of musicians I really love who are still living and I haven't seen in concert. Hang in there for a few more years and come back to the ATL, Mr. Plant!!!

Sorry to hear you had such an excremental week. Things can only get better! Tasty SOTW zip for which many thanks. Unlike Mr de Burgh I'd probably pay a couple of drachmas to the Ferry man for that ethereal tune. Cheers!

Two firsts for me.

I've known "Trick Bag" via Robert Palmer but had never bothered to track down the original. Thanks for that. It's great.

Had never heard the Kinks tune either. Lovely!
