Spellbound- Siouxsie & The Banshees
Li'l Red Riding Hood- Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs
Gotta Have Your Love- The Sapphires
Dyna-Mite- Jon Cleary
Yeah Man!- Eddie Hinton
Dumb Things- Paul Kelly
Misfits- The Kinks
Spellbound- Siouxsie & The Banshees
(I go on Siouxsie binges twice a year. "Juju" is always a great spin. Might hit "Tinderbox" later.)
Li'l Red Riding Hood- Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs
(Did you know there is a German Sam The Sham box from 1993 that has over 90 songs? I didn't until last week. I listened to a 25 track playlist I put together, most songs being new to me. Many sounded just like "Wooly Bully" and I grew tired. But I always loved "Li'l Red Riding Hood.")
Gotta Have Your Love- The Sapphires
(One of my all timers is a song called "Who Do You Love" by Philly soulsters The Sapphires. That's really all I knew by the band, and it's so good, it's all I thought I needed. But a new box was released in the U.K., "The Mod Top 100" and on that list is a Sapphires b-side that knocked me out. Here it is.)
Dyna-Mite- Jon Cleary
("Some say Dyna will. Some say Dyna won't. I say Dyna might. DON'T TELL NOBODY!")
Yeah Man!- Eddie Hinton
("Very Extremely Dangerous" isn't as good as it should have been. But this track from the guitar legend almost saves the day.)
Dumb Things- Paul Kelly
(I've been a fan since I first saw Paul Kelly open for Crowded House in 1987.)
Misfits- The Kinks
(The beautiful title track from the Kinks' best on Arista, which is a getting a new remaster any day now.)

Never listened to much Sam The Sham - always considered him a novelty act, but this track is awfully good.
You turned me on to Jon Cleary some time ago (thank goodness!) - some of his stuff is a little "smooth" for me, but most, especially the funky stuff (HIt, Git, Quit, Split), is right in my wheelhouse.
I've got a couple of Eddie H. albums (digital), including Dangerous. Just realized he's caucasian, what a voice!
Love the Sapphires - already have The Slow Fizz on my ipod. Glad to add Who Do and Gotta Have as well!
Stellar mix, thanks!
Randy
Dumb Things is one of so many great songs from Paul Kelly. An absolute legend in Australia, he should be bigger elsewhere.
- Paul in DK
I’d forgotten what a pisser that Sam the Sham song is.😎
Paul Kelly really is good. Sorry I haven't seen him yet in concert!
Spellbound - Siouxsie & The Banshees – glad it wasn’t the 12”
Li'l Red Riding Hood - Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs – In my school days there were four immature boys that always sat together on the school bus. When I boarded the bus, they always greeted me with wolf whistles and cat calls. These hairless half-inchers would sing Li’l Red Riding Hood to me in their unchanged soprano voices. They really played up the lechery in the way they sang the lyrics. It was absurd. These fuckers were so clueless, that they didn’t even know what a period was. Like they could even deliver. Other faves they sang that were directed at me were Wild Thing and Hanky Panky. More cat calls as I left the bus. Then they went back to rupturing each other in the balls and giggling. Thank God there were only a few weeks left in school …. Number 1 in Berdoo during that long. hot, smoggy summer …. Check out Sam’s Banned in Boston. No prominent pumping farfisa. It rocks enough for me to have danced to it at the Wildcat. But only a couple of times.
Gotta Have Your Love- The Sapphires – If this was a B-Side, it sure got a lotta airplay on the L.A. “black” stations. The other side is good too, but I think Gotta Have Your Love was probably the “A.” …. Who Do You Love was huge in SoCal. Definitely Top Ten …. I picked up a Sapphire compilation from my import distributor circa 2005-ish. The quality of the material is outstanding. Two guys and a girl in case you thought differently. I’m not sure if it’s still in print. Probably not. I imagine the run was pretty small. It was on Sequel Records a sub of Castle.
Dyna-Mite- Jon Cleary – Definitely
Yeah Man!- Eddie Hinton – There’s a lot to like on all of his albums. When the first one came out, I never even knew about it. There was little fanfare. Then I met this guy who was a director of “underground art films.” He put me on to the LP and played it all the way through. I really liked it. Maybe it was a little understated, but real …. Also dig Drive-by Truckers-Dangerous Highway-Tribute to Eddie Hinton 45. Shonna Tucker shines on Where’s Eddie. The band nails Everybody Needs Love. Both tracks ended up on Go-Go Boots.
Dumb Things- Paul Kelly – Seems pretty cool, but I’d rather be stealing in the name of the Lord. The white one does sound like a great fit for CH, however.
Misfits- The Kinks – yep, the best on Arista. Saw them on that tour three times. Twice with Charlie and the other time with Blondie opening.

glad you kept the comments , always an interesting read. Thank you for sharing some great music
Picked up that Mod comp based on your description of that Sapphires track and am enjoying it immensely. A lot of these Northern Soul comps have a lot of overlap. I was mildly and pleasantly taken aback at how many of these numbers I didn't know.
