Back when Little Steven's Underground Garage was still in diapers, our little record store was one of their suppliers and I became friendly with some of the staff. Thanks to these great people, one of whom is a friend to this day, I was a big shot around the E Street camp for a few years, getting V.I.P. treatment at any Bruce show I wanted. I saw Bruce & The E Street Band more times between 2002 and 2006 than I did in the 25 years prior. It was a great time, especially since I can barely afford to do anything in New York Shitty these days.
I was also invited to a series of shows produced by The Underground Garage at a venue in Times Square and I can't for the life of me remember details. I do know one of those nights featured Locksley headlining a bill of three.
Do you remember Locksley? It's okay if you don't, because I had forgotten about these guys myself until last night. I found the music on one of my once lost, recently located hard drives and that Times Square show immediately came to mind. I want to say these shows took place in the old Hawaii Kai, a legendary tiki bar and restaurant turned into a go-go club. As a matter of fact, I think this concert series had "go-go" in the title. If anyone remembers this, please help me out.
But I digress.
This Locksley stuff kicks ass. And I am thrilled I found them again.

Fun stuff. I'll gife them a listen. Springsteen 2002-2006? Does that mean you were at Madison Square Gardens for the Seeger Sessions concert, which was one night only and not even sold out? (Shame on you, diehards!) It is certainly tied for my favorite Springsteen concert ever and oh how I'd wish he'd get that band back together and do it again.
Those lost hard drives have really been paying off for you... and us too! Great sound - love it!
Been meaning to tell you I've really been digging Maurice Brown. The Judy Mowatt record you turned me onto a while back... I think, maybe in a SOTW.
Thanks, as always, for the new tunes!
Randy
The Locksley stuff is a little by the numbers for my taste. YMMV. 😎
I am on board with Locksley. I remember seeing them on late night - I think Conan.
i got to see some of those underground garage shows back then. i remember seeing the zombies at one. anyone remember any of the other bands from that night?

Reminds me of The Stairs "Weed Bus" (1992). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlBeSlDLxlA&ab_channel=fery2
I found I had the Locksley album in my collection so I listened to the whole thing yesterday. I thought it was OK garage rock and didn't remember anything about it. I must have liked it at the time, but it's just lost in the myriad of other albums I was getting around that time.
Damn - this is good stuff! Never heard of them. Sad about what's happened to New York Shitty.
