Rocket #9- NRBQ
(Omnivore Records reissued the Q's debut a few years back, but I only just found out it was mastered by the engineering genius Kevin Gray, so I had to grab a copy. And if you love this record, you need this version. It has never sounded so good.)

She Knew She Was Falling In Love- David Johansen

(I read somewhere that "In Style" was a disappointment to some fans after David Jo's debut because it had some "disco" tracks on it. Hardly. I think I like "In Style" more than the debut.)

Pigs- Amyl & The Sniffers

(This will probably go over like a lead balloon, but maybe some of you might dig it as much as I do. Loosen your tie. Unbutton your jeans. Turn it up!)

Rollin' Stone- The Marigolds
(And speaking of David Johansen, a friend suggested this track after hearing David play it on his radio show "Mansion Of Fun." Love this and the b-side of that Excello 45!)

Two Is A Couple- Ike & Tina Turner
(This is the original 1965 single only rocker and not the 1978 remake.)

Carnal Mind- Yabby You
(From the "One Heart, One Love" album, a reggae record I highly recommend.)

Wedding Day- Alex McMurray

(We close with one of Alex McMurray's very best. After this, there won't be a dry eye in da house.)

Alex McMurray needs to get discovered by more people. That man cannot make a bad recording. Was honored to have him perform at our wedding, and have you really been married if McMurray hasn't played at your reception "Jesus Always Gets His Man"?!?

Love the Q. The early band with Steve Ferguson and then the 20 years of Big Al Anderson. Wow. From my blog: 1978's At Yankee Stadium was one of the better studio records they made, and the beginning of a run of four fantastic records. At Yankee Stadium (I Want You Bad, The Same Old Thing, It Comes To Me Naturally, Ridin' In My Car), Kick Me Hard 1979 (Wacky Tobacky, It Was A Accident, Hot Biscuits And Sweet Marie, Don't You Know), Tiddlywinks 1980 (Feel You Around Me, Me And The Boys, That I Get Back Home, Roll Call, Definition Of Love), and Grooves In Orbit 1983 (Rain At The Drive-In, 12 Bar Blues, A Girl Like That, Get Rhythm) all contained classics, and there is very little filler. This run was their finest period. All four of the records above are essential. Especially Tiddlywinks. That's right, it is especially essential.

I couldn't agree more, though I'd add Scraps and All Hopped Up to that list. It's an amazing run.

I'm not crying. I've got allergies to good music.

Scraps for sure, and I also loved Workshop, which was kinda unique in it's sound. But for some reason I never got as excited by All Hopped Up. I'll have to give it another spin.
