The excellent new Cheap Trick single with a full length to follow in the fall, of course put me in the mood. I went right back to the beginning for "Oh Candy."

I had forgotten about that Stiff Records box from 1992 until someone recently posted about it. I put together a personal playlist and both the Jane Aire and Jona Lewie tracks stood out. Both were favorites in the day, with "You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties" being my theme song for most of the 80's.

And maybe it's just me but, while the iPod was shuffling last week, it played the Young Marble Giants into that early Stones track and it really felt like genius sequencing. See what you think?

Cheap Trick's first: perfection, a desert island disc for sure.

The single of "Oh Candy" is a different take than on the LP. The single version is on the boxed set "Sex, America, Cheap Trick:" The liner notes say, "The lead vocal is a bit different....and the hand-claps are up-front."

My college band used to cover "Empty Heart." Great fun to play.

BTW, that song of the day is jaw dropping. I don't wanna give anything away, but it's resemblance to a later Beach Boys masterpiece is...wow. 😎

Exactly! Pre-dates that Brian masterpiece by 5 years.

Empty Heart used to be a great live vehicle for the Stones. Check out the good extensive MC5 version on their Swan Song 1972 recording Thunder Express.
