"HURT"- Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

30 years after the fact and 15 mostly solid records later, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' sophomore release "You're Gonna Get It" remains my favorite Petty record. Clocking in at a little over 29 minutes, The Heartbreakers' use every second to prove that their stunning debut was not a fluke.

"I Need To Know" and "Listen To Her Heart" became Petty classics, but it was track 3 that jumped out at me and grabbed hold for good. The opening guitar blast on "Hurt" is what air guitarists dream about. I thought about this song on the flight home from New Orleans last week and just had to get it up here.

Love Tom Petty.....and I must mention Petty's idol, " a friend of us all ", Roger McGuinn & The Byrds.......no Heartbreakers without their influence....

PS I miss Clarence White.

Upcoming new releases I hope that Burning Wood mentions, but may not...cause alt - country sometimes slips thru his fingers, especially round' N'Orleans time...

Steve Earle - sings Townes Van Zandt

Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women

Del McCoury - ( Box Set )

Michelle Shocked - Soul of my Soul

I gave a half page to Gurf Morlix and you never said a word. Now that's Mean, Mr. Streets.

I stand corrected Burning Wood, your blog was the only northeastern site to mention Gurf Morlix, a big thumbs up for highlighting one of the top 3 CD's of 2009, " Last Exit To Happyland "

Deserved a " full page " however....

That Petty record's my fave too.

Now if I could only find that live version of Route 66 from the same time that was on a radio station promo LP back in the day...
