Trembling Bells

In a 2008 article in Mojo magazine, Paul Weller raved about a new band called Trembling Bells. What he said and what I heard, were two different things. I wish I could tell you exactly what he said or what I remember hearing, but I can't. I just know I didn't care for it.

Ten years later, Trembling Bells has a new record called "Dungeness." It is their fifth and it comes out on Friday, though you can get it now on Bandcamp. I heard a track yesterday that I loved. It is right in my British folk and psych wheelhouse, and I'm telling you, if I heard this in 2008, I would have been raving about it. Apparently, the band has been employed as backing band for current incarnations of both Kaleidoscope and the Incredible String Band.

It's all about timing, I guess. I'm going to be busy catching up on Trembling Bells.

I must have read the same article you did as Trembling Bells sounded too familiar. I consulted my hard drive and found I have their 2009 album "Carbeth". What I remember about the hype was that her voice compared favorably to Sandy Denny's. Digging further into memory, I recall thinking the sound was fine, but the songs lacking. I just listened to the tracks you posted, and the opener from 2009, and maybe you're right. It's all about the timing.
The cover art of "Dungeness" is terribly reminiscent of "Fotheringay" BTW.

My god, this just drips with psychedelia.

As a Glaswegian, like the band, I'm intrigued by the title Christ's Entry Into Govan.

reminds me more of Curved Air than British folk, or a British take on early Jefferson Airplane.

Can't comment on this album but I thoroughly enjoyed their last one. Give it a listen I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Their collaboration with Bonnie Prince Billy was a good 'un, too.
