"Spampinato! Spampinato!"

While scrolling through Instagram last night, I was both shocked and elated to see this photo taken during SXSW of The Iguanas with the one and only Joey Spampinato. I knew he was still with us, but I haven't seen or heard note one from the legendary NRBQ bassist in years. He was in Austin playing with Kami Lyle. If this is old news, please forgive me. I'm just very happy to see Joey up and about, and in the company of another of my favorite bands.

In honor of the rare Spampinato citing, here is a double Q whammy live from "Sunday Night."

Whoa nelly, what a great way to start the day. Piano solo was insane. But all superior stuff

Thanks for that! I miss the Q and Sunday Night, the most consistently great and eclectic music show that's been on TV.

Oh man, that was fantastic. And Spampinato! Yeah! I'm glad he's out there!

One of my favorite 'Q stories - I'm sure I've a-told it here - was in the early 90s when they were playing the Cotton Club here in Atlanta. They were all next door at the famous burrito joint (RIP) Frijoleros. I walked in to get a burrito and saw them.

They had Creative Loafing open, our local music/culture paper, reading the preview of their very show that night. One of them, Al I think, read the preview out loud to the band. Luckily it was a positive write-up, but they all had a chortle at some of the lines in there.

You've always talked about how much you love them, and wow, I can see why! What fun!

That was fantastic. I have seen them at least 25 times and they were that good every time.

@Noel M - I was at that Cotton Club Q show too!

Joey was the recent beneficiary of a "Sweet Relief" tribute to raise funds for his cancer treatment, so it's really good news that he's playing. Thanks, Sal!

When I was a kid in the 60’s I always felt happy when I listened to the Beatles or Beach Boys. As an “adult” I feel that same happiness whenever I listen to NRBQ.

@jonder, how cool!! And thanks for the heads-up on that Sweet Relief, I'll definitely be buying that tomorrow to help out and also because the artist list looks top-notch.

I've been a casual NRBQ fan for many-a-years, but recently have take a very deep dive into their catalog and, good God!, I'm having a great time!

Great to see Joey out and about. Such a shame that is was not a good breakup between Terry and The Spampinato Brothers. Sal, The Iguanas are playing at a small club in New Haven, Cafe Nine. I've got my tix. it's May 20th. Be there or be square.
