Oh Brothers

I have no dog in this race. I did see Oasis at the Hammerstein Ballroom in 1997 and loved every second of the show. I had tickets for the Brotherly Love Tour in 2001 with The Black Crowes, but by then had lost interest in both bands after two disappointing releases in a row from The Gallaghers and one, "Lions," from the Robinsons. Also, I despise Radio City Music Hall for a rock concert and on top of it all, I had a four brother implosion in the back of my mind the entire time. It was easier to stay home.

I truly had no idea that this reunion would be this much of a monster. I'd be interested in seeing if the ticket insanity carries over to the U.S., though LiveNation and Ticketmaster are very capable of fucking up a Sugarloaf reunion.

Rumor has it they may be playing stadiums here next summer including Met Life. Personally can't see that happening.

I did see that Radio City show and if I recall it was pretty good.

There's been a lot of hype about it over in the UK and tbh it all seems like a cynical cash grab, even by the standards of 21st century music, to fund Noel's divorce. Having seen them a few times in the 90's I had zero interest in this, but my son wanted to see them, so I dutifully logged on Saturday morning. I was immediately in a huge queue. 5 hours later (I should point out I left the laptop on and was pottering about, not sitting at the laptop) progress! I went on to the next level.... it turned out I was queuing just to get onto the Ticketbastard website. I was then in another queue for Oasis tix with 203, 000 people ahead of me. I left it on, went about my day checking in and then about 4 hours later I realised I'd got through but just missed my slot. Probably just as well as they were using dynamic pricing - there are legions of stories of people selecting a £150 face value ticket only to find that when they went to the checkout, it had left up to £400. A cynical, nasty scam. And yes, I know it's a scam. And the artists are responsible for giving Ticketbastard the okay to do this. And yes, that's you Springsteen.

When I saw them at Earls Court at their peak, the tickets cost, adjusted for inflation, less than £30. Funnily enough, Liam's been playing stadiums here the last couple of years and he's been playing Definitely Maybe. I define anyone to tell the difference.

A pal of mine in London said bookies are taking bets on when they will break up again. The sooner the better for me. What a yawn.

There is a controversy going on about if you should talk about this when your opinion is: Their first LP is subpar and their songs derivative. BTW, saw them in 199something. Nothing to remember.

Saw Oasis in 94 at the Whisky a Go Go. Had no desire to see them again. Mediocre band. My teenaged kids didn't like them either. They were into a lot of stuff like Beck, Soundgarden, Green Day, Sublime all really popular bands. They had no use for Oasis, but they dug the sududes Annunciation, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Beatles etc. When one of my kids was 8 he wanted to be MC Hammer. Thankfully, he grew out that quick enough.

VR congrats on the blog

Furtherish developments.

Oasis are now claiming that didn't sign off on dynamic pricing and have announced 2 more Wembley shows which will be only made available to people who didn't tried but didn't get tix. I guess the agencies have email accounts which tried.

Of course, their protestations have met with mockery in the UK, people know that Ticketmaster don't do dynamic pricing without the artist's okay. I guess in theory it's something their management could have okayed without telling the band, in which case they need to ditch the management. But if they refund every penny that people paid over the advertised price, then fair enough, they'd deserve credit for that, and to be acknowledged for having some integrity. If they don't, then they deserve to be slated for their BS and crocodile tears. I know which my money's on...
