Sugar Coated Love- Barbara Lynn
(A groove that just won't quit!)

One Day- APB

(This band's string of singles ruled the WLIR airwaves in the early 80's. I loved them all, including this one.)

Ruler Of My Heart- Dirty Dozen Brass Band w/Norah Jones

(Irma Thomas owns this song, but this is a fine collab from one of the DDBB's best records, "Medicated Magic.")

Take This Hammer- Clifford Jordan

(Clifford Jordan is an adventurous player, steeped in the blues, but still able to blow hard with the best of them. On "These Are My Roots: Jordan Plays Leadbelly," a 1965 session, he tackles many familiar melodies, managing to stay true to Leadbelly's material while still swinging, bopping and honking with enough gall to keep the jazz purists happy. Jordan is accompanied by Richard Davis on bass, Tootie Heath on drums, Cedar Walton on piano, Julian Priester on trombone, Roy Burrowes on trumpet, Chuck Wayne on banjo and on two vocal tracks, the hauntingly beautiful voice of Sandra Douglass, one of those tunes, "Take This Hammer" is featured here.)

Don't Let A Good Thing Go- The Nightingales
(First time I heard this one was when we covered it in The Hard Copies. Loved it ever since. Another groover!)

Where Have All The Good Times Gone- The Kinks

("Woncha tell me?")

Good Times- Hoodoo Gurus
(Singer-songwriter Nora O'Connor posted a video of her singing along to "Death Defying" from the Gurus "Mars Needs Guitars" LP. That kickstarted a Gurus mini-binge. Ray Davies asks "Where Have All The Good Times Gone" and the Gurus, with some help from Susanna Hoffs answer.)

I had to put out an APB to figure out who APB were. (I'm a little weak on Scottish post-punk bands, to be honest.) Any album/collection to start with? The pickings are slim with these lads.

The first ten tracks on this comp are all you need. No familiar with the second half. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E8AT9SM/ref=sr_1_4?crid=15EI4H98ZQ601&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.FAcZgCNSLZL3pqqgt0GeeaQTa6wcqQMjzp22cP4hPVG34_lEl5Fbx2FYgISveC6FUroRJwh3wwi6qzcqfR2OGnr4Q5x8uJGs_hJ9aIojqudptGgwVu_GszFLooSeIxu4UOcLcTK-9ybCTzUPzRYcNJkjHNpgQR4po62_PUVv1oub0v8Ylipa2ImXgGeffi-X.k5ZmwNRSAbgMSqeerWXLYXg486TEZudEJuooYy_OIL4&dib_tag=se&keywords=apb+something+to+believe+in&marketplaceId=ATVPDKIKX0DER&musicTerritory=US&qid=1725218675&sprefix=apb+something+to+belie%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-4&trackAsin=B00E8AT9SM

I've never heard of APB either. I was thinking "Average Plight Band, " or, ...?

Nice mix here, thanks! My wife bought tickets to a Norah Jones concert this month. And this is the first song I've ever heard by her. It's great! I know there are others, of course. I guess I have some homework to do in the next week...

Just be happy it wasn't the Artimus Pyle Band.

Nice set of songs. That Nightingales number knocks me out. Hard to believe it was a B-Side. Tommy Tate was a better singer than Ollie. The band just pops. That bass and drums action is delicious. Is that the MG's? Is that Cropper on the tasty guitar outro, or someone else?

APB must have strictly been an East Coast thing. I never heard them on the radio out west. Don't think they ever performed here, either.

Barbara Lynn original is much better than Lou Ann Barton's subsequent cover.

Thanks - Happy Labor Day
